MusicTap is a free listening app that turns physical items into keys for music. Artists and labels embed NFC tags in stickers, cards, apparel, posters, and album packaging. When you tap your phone on a tag, the release it carries unlocks in the app for a temporary listening session.

Yes. The app is free to download on iOS and Android and there are no subscriptions inside it. Access to music comes from the physical tags you scan, plus any Free Listen releases featured in the home feed.

No. MusicTap is scan-first: the physical tag itself is your key. You can scan, unlock, and listen without signing up for anything. Progress such as badges is tied to your device.

Most modern phones. On iPhone, NFC scanning works on iPhone 7 and newer running a recent iOS version, and iPhone XS and newer can also read tags straight from the home screen. On Android, almost any phone with NFC works. You also need an internet connection, since music is streamed rather than stored on the tag.

Search for "MusicTap" on the Apple App Store or Google Play and look for the MusicTap icon from LabelTools. Scanning a tag without the app installed will also open a page that points you to the right store.

No. The tag only carries a unique, opaque unlock link. The music itself stays in protected storage on our servers and is streamed securely to your phone after a valid scan. That is why a tag stays useful even as a release gets updates or new artwork.

Hold the top edge of your iPhone flat against the tag for a second or two. On newer iPhones a notification appears — tap it to open MusicTap. You can also open the app and use the Scan NFC Tag button, then hold the phone to the tag when prompted.

Make sure NFC is enabled in Settings and your screen is on and unlocked. Touch the back of your phone to the tag — the NFC antenna is usually near the middle or upper back. The unlock link opens directly in MusicTap.

Check that NFC is turned on (Android), your screen is on and unlocked, and any thick or metal phone case is removed. Move the phone slowly across the tag, since antenna placement varies by model, and hold it still for two to three seconds. If the phone still does not react, open MusicTap and use the in-app Scan NFC Tag button.

First make sure you are on the latest version of MusicTap, since early builds had an iPhone scanning limitation that has been fixed. On Android, confirm NFC is enabled in Settings. If your phone genuinely has no NFC hardware, you cannot tap tags, but tag links can still be opened on that device if you have the URL.

No. If MusicTap is not installed, the tag opens a page on musictap.app that explains the release and links you to the App Store or Google Play. Install the app, then tap the tag again to unlock and play.

Usually, yes. NFC works through thin materials like shrink wrap, cardboard, sticker laminate, and slim cases. Metal cases, metallic surfaces, and very thick cases block the signal, so remove those if a scan will not register.

Make sure MusicTap is installed and up to date. On Android, check that MusicTap is allowed to open its links: Settings, Apps, MusicTap, Open by default, and enable the supported links. On iPhone, tap the scan notification rather than typing the link, or use the Scan NFC Tag button inside the app, which always stays in the app.

Yes. Older tags that use app.labeltools.ai links remain fully supported alongside the newer musictap.app links. You do not need a replacement tag.

Each scan opens a temporary listening window set by the artist or label — commonly a few hours. The app shows a countdown so you always know how much time remains.

Playback pauses automatically and the release locks again. Nothing is lost: tap the tag again to start a fresh listening window.

Yes. The physical tag is your durable key, and each scan renews access. Very rapid repeated scans may be rate-limited briefly for security, but normal listening use is never restricted.

You can hand over the physical item, just like lending a record. On exclusive tags, the newest scan becomes the active listener and the previous phone loses access until it scans again. On shared tags, multiple people can hold access at the same time.

The same tag was scanned more recently on another phone, or on another of your own devices, and that scan took over the session. If you have the tag, simply scan it again to take access back.

It depends on the tag. Exclusive tags follow a last-scan-wins rule, so only the most recent device holds access. Shared tags allow several active listeners at once. The behavior is chosen by the label when the tag batch is created.

You keep the physical item forever, and it keeps granting listening sessions. MusicTap does not sell downloads: the music streams securely during your access window rather than being copied to your phone.

Yes. A tag can point to a single track, a full album, or a bundle — whatever the artist or label programmed for that product. Everything included appears in the app after you scan.

Not currently. MusicTap streams over a secure connection, so you need internet access, either Wi-Fi or mobile data, while listening.

Yes. Playback continues in the background, and you get full controls on the lock screen and in the notification shade, including play, pause, and track skipping.

Yes. MusicTap plays through whatever audio output your phone is using, including Bluetooth headphones, speakers, and car audio systems, with standard play and pause controls from those devices.

A full premium player: play and pause, seeking, next and previous track, shuffle and repeat, album tracklists with artwork, and an expanded now-playing view themed to the release art.

The three usual reasons: your access window expired (re-scan the tag to renew), your internet connection dropped, or the tag was scanned on another device and took over the session. The app shows a message explaining which one happened.

MusicTap streams high-quality audio, which is comparable to other music streaming apps. If you are on a limited mobile plan, listening over Wi-Fi is the safest choice for long sessions.

The home screen highlights releases you can explore right now, including Free Listen releases that do not require a tag and featured NFC Drops from artists and labels using MusicTap.

Some artists open a release for free streaming inside the app for a period of time. You can play those straight from the home feed without scanning anything.

Badges are collectible achievements you earn by using MusicTap — scanning tags, unlocking releases, and listening. Your badge collection lives in the app and grows with your collection of physical releases.

Badges are currently tied to the device that earned them, since MusicTap does not require an account. If you switch phones, your physical tags still unlock everything, but earned badges do not transfer yet.

Anything an artist wants to make playable: stickers, collector cards, apparel and merch, posters, vinyl and CD packaging, and limited-edition drops. If it can hold a small NFC inlay, it can carry music.

First rule out phone-side issues using the scanning checklist above, and try a second phone if you can. NFC chips are durable but can fail if the item was sharply bent, cut, punctured, or exposed to strong heat. If the tag itself is dead or its campaign has ended, contact the artist or store you got it from, or email support with a photo of the item.

The NFC chip itself typically survives moisture, but overall durability depends on the product it is embedded in. Avoid soaking printed cards and stickers, and check the product's own care instructions for apparel.

If you can physically transfer the sticker or inlay without damaging it, it will keep working — the music is linked to the tag's unique code, not to the item around it. Peeling and re-sticking does risk damaging the antenna, so proceed carefully.

Directly from the artists, labels, and stores running MusicTap campaigns — at shows, in merch stores, and in physical release bundles. MusicTap itself does not sell the physical products.

No. Tags only work if they were issued and registered through the MusicTap platform by a licensed artist or label, and each tag carries a unique code that the server validates. A blank tag pointed at a copied link will not create new access.

MusicTap works without an account, so there is no profile to fill in. Scans are validated server-side to grant access, and the app keeps lightweight device-level data to power features like badges and your unlocked releases. Payment details are never involved, since the app sells nothing.

Privacy Policy

Protecting the artists is part of the product. Music streams through short-lived, signed URLs from private storage, so there is no durable file link to copy or share. Your tag remains your key to listen whenever you want.

MusicTap tags open links on musictap.app or app.labeltools.ai, and the app only unlocks content after the server validates the tag's unique code. As with any NFC tag or QR code from an unknown source, check that the link shown is a domain you trust before opening it.

Check your internet connection, pull to refresh, and make sure you are on the latest app version. If the feed still fails, force-close and reopen the app. Should the problem persist, email support and mention the time it happened.

Confirm you are online and scan again — occasional network hiccups resolve on retry. If the tag consistently fails, its campaign may have ended or the tag may have been deactivated. Contact support with the code or link shown on the error screen and we can look it up.

In order: force-close and reopen the app, check for an update in the App Store or Google Play, toggle NFC off and on (Android), restart your phone, and re-scan your tag. That sequence resolves the vast majority of issues.

MusicTap Writer is the companion admin app used by licensed teams to program and manage tag batches — writing unique codes to physical tags, choosing shared or exclusive access, and setting listening-window durations.

Yes. Each tag batch is configured server-side with its release contents, access mode, and listening-window length, and campaigns can be managed after the tags ship because the tags carry only opaque codes.
